The recruitment procedure (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/259769) was opened on November 16th, 2017, and a total of 86 applications were received. The geographical and gender distributions of AQUAlity applicants are shown in the following images.
The CVs of all the eligible applicants were successively considered on the basis of the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/charter/code).
The selection committee concluded the CVs evaluation on 21st December, 2017, with the preparation of a short list of candidates to be interviewed via Skype. All the candidates included in the short list (44 persons) received in few days a communication from the AQUAlity staff indicating the date for the Skype call.
After the Skype colloquium the selection committee attributes a score to each candidate that, together with the scores achieved in CV evaluation and coherence of the project, permitted to attribute a final score to rank them in each ESR position. Finally, all the candidates were noticed of the conclusion of the selection procedure and the first classified for each position was invited to explicitly accept the position and join the AQUAlity project.

Duration of appointment:
From 01/07/2020, or soon thereafter, to 30/09/2021. There may be a possibility for extension. Appointment to Research Assistant may be for 3 years maximum. Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum 3 years.
Eligibility criteria:
The applicants need to fully comply with the following eligibility criteria, in line with H2020-MSCA-ITN-2017 Call requirements:
- The candidate must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of his/her research careers, at the time of recruitment by Aalborg University (expected in 07.2020). This is measured from the date when the candidate obtained the degree which formally entitles him/her to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged. Please note that applicants cannot hold a PhD at the time of recruitment.
- Conditions of international mobility of researchers: The position is open to applicants of all nationalities, but the candidate is required to undertake transnational mobility when accepting the position (i.e. move to Denmark). The candidate must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organisation (Denmark) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment (July 2020). Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

Selection procedure:
Qualifications will be assessed by a Joint Selection Committee (JSC) made of members of the AQUAlity Project Network.
Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview – to be held via teleconference.
Then, the members of the JSC will consult and will carry out a joint evaluation. Final ranking of candidates will then be drafted and official emails about the status of the application will be sent.
When the position is offered, the candidate will have to send a formal e-mail notifying acceptance or rejection.
Details on the selection process which is now over:
17 applications were received. The AQUAlity Joint Selection Committee selected, as first-ranked candidate, Oihane Del Puerto Bengoetxea. The candidate accepted the job offer. She signed the contract on 1st September 2020 and became the new ESR5 within AQUAlity. Her contract end-date will coincide with AQUAlity end-date (30th September 2021).
